Welcome to the Los Altos General Plan Update website!

The Los Altos General Plan is our blueprint for the future. It’s a long-range plan built on a shared vision that describes the kind of community local residents and businesses want Los Altos to be and it identifies actions we can take to realize the vision. The City of Los Altos is updating the General Plan to address emerging issues and new State laws and to achieve key objectives, including:

  • Preserving and enhancing Los Altos’ distinctive sense of place;
  • Reinforcing the role of Downtown Los Altos in the life of the community;
  • Facilitating infill development in strategic locations linked to market opportunities while strengthening neighborhood quality of life;
  • Revitalizing older commercial centers with new uses to better serve the community;
  • Promoting environmental sustainability throughout the community and integrating best practices into City programs and policies;
  • Exploring options to enhance recreational amenities and foster community health; and
  • Advancing citywide goals for multimodal mobility, roadway safety, business vitality, and housing availability.

In order to facilitate this process, the City has hired a team of consultants, who will be led by Dyett & Bhatia to lead this project in conjunction with City Staff. Dyett & Bhatia is an award-winning planning firm that has prepared over 70 General Plans updated throughout California.
